But data limitations have hampered economists\u2019 efforts to pinpoint the drivers of this growing inequality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/articles?id=10.1257\/aer.20221574\">paper in the&nbsp;<em>American Economic Review<\/em><\/a>, authors&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/econweb.umd.edu\/~haltiwan\/\">John Haltiwanger<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/henryrhyatt.com\/\">Henry R. Hyatt<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iza.org\/person\/1049\/james-r-spletzer\">James R. Spletzer<\/a>&nbsp;show that the overall increase in wage inequality is driven by a small number of industries.
