Income inequality hardly changed during the COVID-19 pandemic

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, several analysts predicted increases in within-country inequality. For example, Furceri et al (2022) 1  showed that major epidemics over the past two decades have raised income inequality. They warned that in the absence of long-lasting supportive policies to protect the vulnerable, the COVID-19 pandemic would increase inequality significantly.
