Don’t swap tariffs for minimum prices on Chinese electric vehicles

One year after the European Union imposed sweeping anti-subsidy duties on battery electric vehicles imported from China, the data tell a story very different from the political narrative that justified them. Far from fending off an existential threat to Europe’s car industry, the tariffs appear to have had little, if any, effect on prices, import volumes, or competitive dynamics. What they have done is generate a substantial new revenue stream for the EU budget.
