Concerns are growing about the state of the global economic and financial architecture. The 29th Geneva Report on the World Economy focuses on four key pillars of the global economic order – global imbalances, the international role of major currencies and risks to the US dollar’s supremacy, the liquidity and the stability and soundness of global bond markets, and the geopolitics of global imbalances – and concludes that the international financial system is going through a transition rather than a rupture. The authors also outline two different paths to the next decade depending on the economic policy actions of the three main actors – the US, Europe and China.
