Οι προτιμήσεις στίξης της ΤΝ – και οι εύλογες υποψίες

Αντιγράφω, χωρίς σχόλιο, επιστολή αναγνώστη με τίτλο “Imagine my horror at seeing AI’s rash of dashes”, η οποία δημοσιεύθηκε στην Φαϊνάνσιαλ Τάιμς της 12 Σεπτεμβρίου 2026.

“Re Elaine Moore’s Big Read Did AI write this? It’s getting harder to tell (August 29), I remember as a junior writer some 10 years ago, being screamed at by a well-meaning editor for not knowing the difference between a hyphen, an en dash and an em dash. I took the lashing as a badge of honour and was proud that I learnt something that my non-writer friends didn’t know. I silently gasped when a hyphen was used in place of an em dash, as it so often was in pre-AI days.

So imagine my horror to see AI-generated em dashes everywhere. Worse still, using them these days makes people automatically suspect that it’s AI-written.

Really, what’s a writer to do? I, for one, have switched to colons; till the AI models catch up, that is.”*
